Expert information, advice and guidance on managing healthy relationships and much more.

After the devastating loss of Paul Lavelle in a domestic abuse incident in 2017, friends and family of Paul came together to create The Paul Lavelle Foundation. The Charity was created to raise awareness of male domestic abuse, support male victims and survivors and provide healthy relationship education as a preventative measure.

The Charity was registered in April 2018 with the intention of raising awareness to male domestic abuse through sports and outdoor activities. Due to the gap in service for support for males experiencing domestic abuse, the response to the Foundation grew considerably.Β  Our office was opened in February 2019 by Barbara Lavelle and Neville Southall, the organisation was established and has grown from strength to strength ever since.Β  Β

After nearly 2 years of hard work, 2020 saw the start of the delivery of the organisation’s activities. The first Healthy Relationship Education workshops in schools, the community sports and activity groups for physical and mental health and well-being and on the 15th July, the Foundation achieved its ultimate aim by opening the first dedicated frontline support service for male domestic abuse in the area.

Our Aims

To raise awareness of male domestic abuse on a local and national level

To provide early intervention support for low to medium risk males experiencing domestic abuse.

To deliver Healthy Relationship Education to children and young people in schools and colleges as well as to professionals and the workplace

To fundraise promoting physical and mental health and wellbeing though sports and physical activities for all, including a large scale annual national / international endurance event

Events

Throughout the year we host and take part in numerous events to help raise awareness for the organisation and domestic abuse involving men.

What people say about the Paul Lavelle Foundation

“The Paul Lavelle Foundation is currently helping me during what is undoubtedly the most troubling period of my life.

You can get a free session with most solicitors, but through my contacts at Paul Lavelle I was not only put in touch with a solicitor, he was able to provide legal advice, but also empathy with my situation.

I needed to attend a police interview and the same solicitor set me up with a criminal legal representative. He also provided sound legal counsel but also helped reassure me that I didn’t have anything to worry about with regards the police matter. All this and not any point did anyone mention fees. They just wanted to help.

Others at the Paul Lavelle Foundation engage with me on a regular basis just to check in, and see how I’m getting on. They offer advice, reassurance, and help me see the path I need to take.

This isn’t just an organisation to me now. It’s become a band of people that really have my back. They help me see that I will come through this.

Throughout your life, people touch your heart, and maybe when your at your lowest you feel that touch more, but I will never forget what the Paul Lavelle Foundation has done / is doing for me.

If you’re reading this and considering contacting them, do not hesitate.

Heartfelt thanks to all those involved.”

“The PLF has helped me massively in life and thanks to their help I have achieved a goal of running a half marathon.”

“Since the Foundation came to life following the tragic loss of our mate Paul its also had a brilliant effect on many of its members like myself, I have never been one to do fitness for many years but now I ride weekly including Lejog the full length of Britain in 9 days, I have also started to learn to swim at the age of 52! This is all down to one thing, This foundation… thanks to all concerned a great legacy will forever follow Paul’s name.”

“I was suffering after having a breakdown and was struggling to bring myself out of it, continuously thinking of ending my life. I was working directly with Chris Shaw and he advised to start the Cold Water swimming along with the PLF lads. They took me on board and the change from starting with them was rapid, I was back to work within weeks, my confidence was growing and the anxiety was subsiding all the time.

I was further encouraged by the PLF lads to get involved with other activities (running & cycling) and they took me into the group growing my confidence further and now feeling part of something really special, which I take pride in. My health has improved, losing over 3 stone in weight, I’ve given up cigarettes and competed alongside the PLF lads at Open water swimming events and this week completing a half marathon with the London Marathon entered next year.

The encouragement, that they’ve given me and checking in when they see me at the various clubs is fantastic, which has had a huge impact on me and my family! I have made huge strides in all aspects of my life and happier than I’ve been for many years. Thank you for everything you’ve done, it will always be appreciated and I will always speak to anyone that will listen about the foundation and the amazing work you do each day!”

“I have been involved and supported the foundation since it’s conception. Paul was a very close friend of mine and his tragic death has brought friends and communities together in every way possible. On a personal level myself and my family have suffered the loss of two loved ones since Paul passed and the legacy he has left behind coupled with the hard work, commitment and support of the foundation members it has helped me massively to overcome grief and stress. I started with the group open water swimming last winter which then progressed onto cycling after I was totally inspired by the Le Jog expedition. On a social aspect just being part of all activities gives me and family a huge sense of belonging and wellbeing both mentally and physically.”
